⚠️ Laser Attacks on Aircraft - A Serious Criminal Offence ✈️

We have received several recent reports of aircraft approaching and landing at RAF Northolt having lasers directed at them from someone believed to be local to the area.

Shining a laser at an aircraft is not a harmless prank. Laser beams can dazzle, distract, or temporarily impair a pilot's vision during critical stages of flight, including landing, potentially putting passengers, crew and people on the ground at risk. The offence does not require an aircraft to be endangered; simply dazzling or distracting, or being likely to dazzle or distract, is enough to commit the offence.

Those responsible can face up to 5 years' imprisonment, an unlimited fine, or both under the Laser Misuse (Vehicles) Act 2018.

We are appealing to residents to be vigilant. If you witness anyone deliberately pointing a laser at an aircraft, please report it immediately. Information can be provided to police via 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

🚫 Think before you shine. A split-second decision could endanger lives, result in a criminal record, and lead to a significant custodial sentence.
